If you say that you’ve laid eyes on many more sports car shapes that are prettier than this, than you should admit to lying to yourself – you haven’t. This 1953 Maserati A6 CGS is the kind of car that if you owned, you’d overpolish until your better half left you, after which point, over polishing would become an even greater concern…

There are no two ways around it: it’s a stunning piece of design, and to think it came less than a decade after the war was over, when other manufacturers were still recycling cars they’d been making in the 1930s makes it twice as impressive.

It probably looked hugely modern back in its prime, and while that may not be the case today, we still appreciate its curves a great deal, in fact. Proof of that is the car’s award of the ‘best in show’ title at the Goodwood Festival of Speed’s Cartier ‘style-et-luxe’ concours d’elegance.

The Pininfarina-designed body, powered by a 2.0-liter straight-six that made just under 120 hp was the killer combo that got the judges on its side. Obviously, the fact that it was the rarer and more powerful GCS model made it a no-brainer.

We only have a few photos of it to show (along with the other Masetatis at Goodwood), but it’s enough… The two videos added are there purely for reference and aren’t of the exact show-winning car.
