Hearing that Turn 10 Studios was doing a sequel to the successful Forza Horizon open world driving game sounded like a very enticing prospect at the time of the first announcement.

It promised a world three times bigger, with real dynamic weather, more cars, better graphics and more freedom than before to go off road. The reveal trailer whetted our appetites for the game, and now we have this off-screen gameplay/developer commentary video combo to round out our preliminary opinion.

Firstly, the south European setting is an excellent choice and makes for a nice change, though it’s somewhat similar to what we saw in Test Drive Unlimited 2 (TDU2), since it was set on the Spanish island of Ibiza which had the same Mediterranean feel and traffic cars.

However, Forza Horizon 2 looks much better and more modern than TDU2 and it also promises the usual Forza party pieces on top of the already enticing open world experience.

A lot is being changed from Horizon to Horizon 2, and it’s best to just let the developer talk us through what they plan to implement and what is already in the game, which ships September 30 for current- and previous-gen Microsoft gaming systems.
