The Ford F-150 Raptor is currently safe, relishing in its own little niche that no other manufacturer has tapped like it has, but in the slightly smaller size class below, things may change very soon, if a report from GM Authority carries holds true.

It says that, while GM is not looking to do hardcore versions of its large Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks, it is interested in doing something with its smaller Colorado and Canyon offerings.

The report quotes unnamed sources that mention this “aggressive off-road variant equal to that of the Ford Raptor,” and suggests it could have been foretold back in 2011, by the Colorado Rally Concept shown in the opening photo and pictured below.

It would definitely make for some interesting shifts in the sector, given that it would be lighter and cheaper than the Ford offering, so it would probably be nimbler and more efficient, plus it looks kind of cool, at least in concept guise.
