Aside from being the pretty face we assume it’s going to be, the Jaguar XE needs to be a class leading car from a technical standpoint as well. It not only needs to have the latest electronics to keep it in line with hugely talented and well established rivals, but it also needs a solid base for all of the above – a competent chassis.

That’s what Jaguar is previewing in its most recent press release regarding the XE. It’s using the occasion to showcase the upcoming BMW 3-Series fighter’s F-Type derived front suspension setup, the “Integral Link” rear suspension and the “electric power steering system delivers renowned Jaguar feel and response.”

The unique rear suspension, forged out of hollow-cast aluminum, “delivers major benefits over conventional multi-link designs. By providing lateral and longitudinal stiffness, the integral link delivers sharp response and handling while retaining a refined, luxurious ride.”

Electronics are being highlighted too, though, and Jaguar seems particularly pleased with itself for having created the world’s first All Surface Progress Control, a system that “ensures rear-wheel drive traction from standstill even in extreme conditions” – we thought we already had that and it was called traction/launch control…

The chassis that is to provide the backbone for it is all-new, all-aluminum, featuring modern direct-injected, turbocharged and low-displacement engines to try to be a match for the class leaders.

Jaguar says all of this will result in “class-leading steering feel.” It even goes as far as to say it will be better than older hydraulic setups, but we’ll be wary of stating that for ourselves until we’ve had a chance to try it out – hydraulic systems can be really good, you know – the Subaru WRX STI, an all-new performance car still uses it…

The official world premiere for the car has also been announced: September 8 is the date chosen for it with a “star-studded event” planned in London.
