If you don’t already like the new BMW M3, then you should reconsider your options. As this MotorTrend review points out, it really has the key to a winning formula in the sector, being faster than before, better handling, yet more efficient, comfortable and usable every day. Sure, you lose the scream of its predecessor’s V8, but it would seem that what you gain, more than makes up for it.

Granted, the old car would still be a better companion if all your driving is done on a racetrack, though not necessarily faster – just more fun thanks to its engine that dominates the experience much more than the twin-turbo straight-six of the new car.

Even so, you cannot ignore the huge torque (and torque delivery) difference between the two cars – this review also features a comparison of the two cars’ dyno sheets to put it into perspective. The torque and power gap can probably widened very easily, now that the engine is turbocharged, since these force-fed engines have a lot to give via a mere software remap.
