One of the reasons why the Porsche 914 didn’t end up being a successful Boxster of its day probably had something to do with the (four-cylinder) engine choices and the word Beetle that probably echoed in the minds of all who pondered buying one.

However, aside from the van-derived engines, the 914s were good and quite light sports cars that made excellent bases for much more serious performance machines.

Take this distinctly orange example from Florida; its owner has gone to great lengths to make his 914 a special one, primarily by bestowing it with a newly-rebuilt 3.2-liter six-cylinder boxer.

The list of modifications that have been brought to the car is detailed in this forum post on 914World, where the owner also lists the total cost of the parts he’s installed – he says he has documented receipts (that don’t include labor) which add up to $60,000.

Currently, he wants $35,000 for the car, though judging by the tone in which the aforementioned post is written, we suspect he may be looking to drop it further…
