So it seems that somebody wants to test the security of the computers that run all the functions of a Tesla Model S sedan. In order to do so, a competition for hackers is being organized to see who can break past their defenses and just what kind of damage could be done once that happens – they’re even offering a $10,000 prize!

The exercise will take place at the SyScan conference, that runs from July 16 – 17, in Beijing.

Forbes says there will be “a Tesla and some computers on site,” but other than that it will be up to the participants to prove their coding and decoding skills on the fly.

However, while all this is good and on the surface an effort to make future Teslas crack-proof, it’s actually a private event not endorsed by the manufacturer, so who knows what their intentions are…  Even so, it doesn’t sound like foul play, and their findings will probably be passed on, since otherwise, there would be no point to the contest.

We also found a video that says it’s actually pretty easy to hack into a Tesla and do all kinds of nasty things remotely. Check it out below!
