The commercial success of Mercedes’ new compact family is undeniable, and one of the best-selling models is the CLA four-door coupe, which has reached 100,000 sales since its launch in April 2013.

The Mercedes-Benz CLA is particularly successful in the United States, where 27,000 models have been sold – more than a quarter of the total. The CLA marked the first time a Mercedes-Benz sold for under $30,000 in the United States and was the brand’s first compact-segment car on sale there.

The average age of CLA drivers in the U.S. is 45, some ten years younger than American Mercedes-Benz customers across the full range. The CLA’s conquest rate is also particularly high in the United States, as 8 out of 10 customers previously drove a competitor model.

Outside the U.S., the most significant sales region for the CLA is Western Europe, with a share of around 30 percent. The biggest single markets in Europe are Germany and Great Britain. In Europe, the CLA’s conquest rate is smaller than in the U.S., at 50 percent.

Mercedes-Benz also said that sales of its new generation of compact cars have reached more than 800,000 units. Since the beginning of this year alone, these have included more than 250,000 A-, B-, GLA- and CLA-Class vehicles. The family will soon receive a fifth member, the CLA Shooting Brake, expected in the second half of 2015.

Like the CLA four-door, the CLA Shooting Brake will be built the Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét, Hungary.
