Land Rover has fully unveiled the fastest production SUV around the Nürburgring, the 542hp Range Rover Sport SVR, ahead of its Pebble Beach debut.

Dubbed the fastest Land Rover ever, the Range Rover Sport SVR is powered by a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine producing 550PS (542hp) and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque. The engine is mated to a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels.

It’s not surprising then that it does 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in just 4.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 162 mph (260 km/h). Not to mention the Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time of 8 minutes 14 seconds – the fastest ever recorded by a production SUV. In order to do that, the SVR features a revised chassis and high performance tyres.

Not only does the SUV debut the SVR moniker, which will be used by future Jaguar and Land Rover high-performance models, but it also gets a two-stage active exhaust featuring electronically controlled valves – a first for the brand. The automaker says the system “optimizes sound quality, performance and aesthetics and provides a racecar-inspired soundtrack at higher engine revs without adversely affecting refinement during steady-state driving.”

Another premiere for Land Rover are the optional 22-inch alloy wheels shod with 295/40 R22 Continental SportContact 5 tyres. As standard, the Range Rover Sport SVR features 21-inch wheels with 275/45 R21 all-season tyres.

In terms of styling, the SVR features distinctive enhancements such as the black-painted roof and pillars, more aggressive front bumper with larger air intakes, rear bumper with two double exhausts and an air diffuser, darkened taillights and headlights, as well as black-painted mirror caps and lateral air outlets.

On the inside, the SVR features unique sports seats and a two-tone color scheme. The Range Rover Sport SVR will debut at Pebble Beach on August 14.
