When Jaguar called it quits, we thought no other manufacturer would be seriously interested in creating a fourth hybrid hypercar, but it seems we were wrong.

Apparently, Audi wants one too, as a halo car, the very pinnacle of its range, with up to 1,000 horses powering its LeMans inspired body – they reportedly want to call it R10.

Sweden’s AMS magazine has the low down, including some preliminary technical details.

Firstly, the Swedish arm of the German magazine says the model has, in fact, been approved for 2016 production, and that it will feature a six-liter V10 engine with 850 PS. The source adds that a hybrid version wouldn’t be that big of a stretch, and that would be the one peaking at or around the 1,000 PS mark.

As far as the powertrain goes, we hope this is not true, and that they do go down the diesel-electric route, like they have with the Le Mans racer – it sounds pretty nice, it’s fast and (more) efficient (than a gasoline equivalent) too.

Size-wise, it’d be a bit bigger than the R8, and it would not be unrealistic of us to expect to be styled to look like the R18 race car (pictured), but with indicators and more toned down demeanor.
