The Skoda Octavia sedan (technically a liftback as the automaker reminds us) is also available with four-wheel drive, as up until now only the estate offered this option.

The Skoda Octavia sedan 4×4 is offered with four engines, one petrol and three diesels, increasing the current Octavia lineup to seven variants, three of which have all-wheel drive.

Sourced from the Octavia Combi 4×4, the four-wheel drive system is a fifth-generation Haldex clutch based AWD technology fitted with an electronic differential lock (EDL) as standard. The 4×4 system is programmed to deliver the torque mainly to the front axle in normal driving conditions and with a light load. If necessary, the rear wheels are activated within fractions of a second, with Skoda saying that this happens so fast that a loss of traction is almost impossible.

The Octavia sedan 4×4 is available with three turbo diesel engines and one turbo petrol unit. The 1.6 TDI Green tec produces 105PS (104hp) and returns just 4.5 l/100 km (52.2 mpg US), with corresponding CO2 emissions of 119 g/km. While being the most economical version, it is also relatively slow, sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.5 seconds and reaching a top speed of 191 km/h (119 mph).

The 2.0 TDI Green tec has 150 PS (148hp) and averages 4.7 l/100 km (50 mpg US), with CO2 emissions of 122 g/km. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is significantly improved at 8.6 seconds, while top speed is 215 km/h (134 mph). But the most potent diesel version is the 2.0 TDI Green tec with 184PS (181hp), which sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds and hits 228 km/h (142 mph). Average fuel consumption is 4.9 l/100 km (48 mpg US).

The only petrol version offered is the 1.8 TSI Green tec with 180PS (178hp), available exclusively with an automatic six-speed DSG transmission. Combined fuel consumption is 6.7 l/100 km (35.1 mpg US), with CO2 emissions of 154 g/km. With this engine, the Octavia sedan 4×4 is capable of a top speed of 229 km/h (142 mph) and can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds.
