The first 2015 Volkswagen e-Golf in the United States is auctioned online before retail sales of the all-electric model begin next month. VW of America and Global Green USA today announced the auction, which is hosted online at Charitybuzz.com/vwegolf.

Proceeds from the auction will benefit Global Green USA, a national environmental non-profit organization. Bids will be accepted until 3:30 p.m. ET on October 29.

“We’re excited to mark the launch of our first all-electric car with an auction that raises funds and awareness for Global Green USA’s groundbreaking work to bring smart, sustainable solutions to communities nationwide,” said Michael Horn, president and CEO, Volkswagen Group of America. “The auction is now live for the public to support an important cause and to be the first proud new owner of the brand’s first electric vehicle in the U.S.,” he added.

Scheduled to go on sale in November in the United States starting at $35,445 (plus $820 destination and delivery) for the fully equipped SEL Premium model, the 2015 e-Golf is Volkswagen’s first fully electric vehicle. The model features a 24.2 kWh lithium-ion battery and an electric motor producing 115 horsepower and 199 lb-ft (270 Nm) of torque.

The e-Golf is fitted with a 7.2 kW onboard charger and DC fast charging standard, with VW offering a warranty of eight years or 100,000 miles (161,000 km) for the battery.
