The folks at Teknikens Värld are at it again with SUVs, this time focusing on the Honda CR-V’s suspiciously lax all-wheel drive system.

After questioning the Porsche Macan’s peculiar handling earlier this month in their infamous Moose Test, the Swedish auto publication posted a video Thursday about the Honda CR-V and its all-wheel drive system that looks to be more front-wheel drive than anything else.

The publication said the AWD CR-V was tested in 2013 and performed poorly, acting primarily as a front-wheel drive car. Honda apparently reprogrammed the system in the latest CR-V, but in their tests it clearly doesn’t.

The problem becomes even more severe when Teknikens Värld shows what a Ford Kuga with AWD can do in the same test.

This test reminded me of a problem Consumer Reports noticed in 2012 when they tested an Acura RDX, an AWD vehicle made in the same Ohio plant as the CR-V. That magazine found the front wheels spun far too much on wet surfaces before the power was shifted to the rear wheels. It would be interesting to see how the RDX performs on the Teknikens Värld test.
