GM wants to strengthen the GMC brand by adding three new SUVs, including one similar to the Jeep Wrangler and a flagship luxury model positioned above the GMC Yukon Denali.

The plans were revealed by Buick and GMC vice-president Duncan Aldred, who said the truck and SUV brand needs to boost sales. “I have come here to do a job and change the face of the brand,” Aldred said in an interview with Edmunds. The executive added that he has high ambitions for the GMC brand.

“We are looking at everything. What segments will grow? What segments will not? We are evaluating all possibilities that could really turbocharge the brand and the growth,” Aldred explained. While currently there are no solid plans to add new models to the GMC lineup, the executive admitted there is room throughout the range for new vehicles.

“You could consider a real flagship over Yukon,” Aldred said, without getting into details. A subcompact crossover sized similarly to the Buick Encore is also in the cards, as is an “active all-road, Wrangler-esque type of vehicle,” Aldred added. “There are definitely more big segments we could play in if we want to,” the executive said.

GMC’s current lineup currently includes the GMC Canyon and Sierra pickup trucks, Terrain and Acadia crossovers, Yukon SUV and Savana van. Appointed Buick and GMC vice-president earlier this year, Duncan Aldred is responsible for sales, marketing and service.
