Kia has released official information about the KX3 Concept unveiled today at the Guangzhou Auto Show. The study previews a C-segment SUV that Kia intends to offer exclusively for the Chinese market. However, the automaker has yet to confirm whether the KX3 concept will go into production.

The KX3 concept has been designed and engineered through Kia’s Dongfeng Yueda Kia (DYK) joint venture. Kia says the KX3 Concept targets young Chinese consumers “who are looking for high-value, high-quality cars that reflect their passion for an outgoing lifestyle.”

The study is 4,260mm (167.7in) long, 1,765mm (69.5in) wide and 1,630mm (64.1in) tall, with a wheelbase of 2,590mm (101.9in). Kia says the wheelbase allows plenty of cabin space for passengers, while the boot has a capacity of 400 liters (14.1 cu-ft).

The KX3 concept is powered by Kia’s 1.6-liter turbo gasoline direct injection (T-GDI) engine, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). The Korean automaker says the four-wheel drive powertrain delivers “fun-to-drive handling characteristics”.

The cabin features Kia’s latest in-car connectivity technology, including smartphone functionality. The automaker says the KX3 concept has a high level of standard equipment and offers a wide range of options. The chassis has been engineered to get a five-star C-NCAP safety rating, thanks to ultra-high tensile steel used throughout the body shell to maximize passive safety.
