This is kind of embarrassing for Lexus. Their racy-looking RC coupe, which has been quite prevalent on the scene ever since it was revealed, failed to garner enough interest for the manufacturer to justify holding a press drive event for journos in Japan.

It would probably have looked better for them if they went through with it, even with low attendance – the fact that they cancelled altogether is just sad…

AutoNews reports that it did get invited to said event and confirmed its presence; the venue also had a V8-powered RC-F on hand to make things even more enticing.

Apparently, though, the main cause was not from non-Japanese media, but more of a domestic problem. The source quotes “a baffled spokesman” who said “it was just one more sickening example of the auto-alienation syndrome gripping this country and its young.”
