2014 MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez has again received the BMW M Award as the best qualifier in the premier class of motorcycle racing. If last year’s prize was a customized BMW M6 Coupe, this year BMW awarded him with an exclusive BMW M4 Coupe.
The 21-year-old Spaniard dominated the 2014 MotoGP season winning his second World Championship title and was also in a class of his own in qualifying. Marquez secured pole position for the first six races of the season, picking up maximum points towards the BMW M Award in the process. In total, Marquez was on pole position on 13 occasions this year, winning the 2014 BMW M Award by a comfortable margin.
Marc Marquez was presented with the prize on Saturday at the final round of the MotoGP in Valencia, Spain. The BMW M4 Coupe features the exclusive BMW Individual special color “Frozen Red Metallic” which will be available on the BMW M3 and M4 from 2015. The car is equipped with the optional M double-clutch transmission with Drivelogic, M carbon ceramic brakes and the adaptive M running gear.
No changes were made under the bonnet, with the M4 Coupe featuring the 425hp twin-turbo six-cylinder inline engine. “Knowing the prize is there at the end of the year gives you special motivation when going for pole on Saturday”, said Marquez. “This year even more so, because I really like this BMW M4 Coupe. I am happy to receive this car and, of course, I will enjoy it,” he added.
Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner are the current record holders, each with three BMW M Awards to their name.
