Opel has begun taking orders for the new Opel Adam S, which is scheduled to arrive in European dealerships early next year.

The sportiest model from the Adam range starts from €18,690 ($23,390) in Germany (including VAT). The Adam S is powered by a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 150PS (148hp) and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) of torque available from 2,750 and 4,500 rpm.

Linked to a six-speed manual transmission with sporty gear ratios, the engine allows the Adam S to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.5 seconds and to reach a top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph). Average fuel consumption is 5.9 l/100 km (39.9 mpg US).

Opel says the Adam S is at home on winding country roads thanks to its specially tuned performance chassis and sharp performance steering. The Adam S’ added performance is reflected in the upgraded exterior appearance, which includes a front lip spoiler, side sill moldings and an extended rear bumper with chrome-plated tailpipe. Inside, the model gets sport pedals and optional Recaro sport seats (available for €1,300). Also optional are the 18-inch “Typhoon” alloy wheels which come with red brake calipers.

“150 hp and 220 Nm torque are already promising credentials; in combination with the easy handling, precise steering and the exceptional brakes we have all the attributes of a true sportsman,” says Jürgen Keller, Executive Director Sales, Marketing & Aftersales Germany.
