While Acura makes fair premium cars that are good and fairly desirable, the brand lacks a clear identity. You don’t hear people passionately talking about how much they want to buy one, and sadly the 2015 TLX won’t be changing minds any time soon.

It is, as all recent Acuras are, a good car and a solid package. There are even a few quirks thrown in to give it an individual character, it’s just they still don’t make it all that interesting.

Tested by CNET’s Brian Cooley, the TLX with a V6 and just front wheel drive performed very well. It can be specced with all the latest safety and infotainment gadgets, and according to Cooley, it’s not even that bad on a twisty road.

He does point out, though, that the nine-speed regular automatic gearbox offered on the fwd model is not up to the (excellent) engine’s standards – the 290 hp unit is much better suited to the eight-speed dual-clutch fitted to cars equipped with Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD).
