Hyundai Updates i30, Adds 186 PS 1.6-Liter Turbo

Hyundai has subtly restyled the i30, while also improving its efficiency. It also introduced a new Turbo model, a warm hatch with 186 PS from its 1.6-liter T-GDI engine – it also comes with unique styling cues, rims and interior bits.

The restyling brings a new hexagonal grille and new front bumper, as well as new 16- and 17-inch rim designs. Three new colors have been made available too: Polar White, Orange Caramel and Jet Black.

There will be plenty of engines to choose from, ranging from a 1.4-liter petrol with 100 PS all the way up to the new Turbo. The most popular choices will most likely be the naturally-aspirated 1.6-liter petrol and the 1.6-liter diesel – these can now be had with a new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission for the first time.

All examples will feature fuel-saving tech: “Integrated Stop & Go (ISG), low rolling-resistance tyres, an alternator management system (AMS) and a drag-reducing ‘active air flap’ in the front grille.”

The most notable new appearance in the range is the i30 Turbo. It not only promises strong performance, but also decent fuel returns too – it’s claimed to achieve 7.3 l/100km (39 mpg UK) combined. Available as both a five- and three-door, the Turbo gains specific exterior styling details (different front bumper, new LED DRLs and a beefy-looking if a bit unnecessary dual exhaust setup). The rims also grow to 18-inches.

Inside, the Turbo features “sports front seats, sports instrument cluster and contrasting red details on the steering wheel, gear knob and door trims.”
