On December 1, Maserati celebrated its 100th anniversary as well as the manufacturing of the 50,000th car at the Avv. Giovanni Agnelli Plant in Grugliasco near Turin.

You may (…or may not) remember that in November 2013, the same plant had produced the 10,000th Maserati model – the Italian brand is doing really well with 40,000 cars built in a little over 12 months. Let’s not forget that Maserati also builds cars in Modena.

Maserati has built 50,000 cars in Grugliasco in less than two years, as the plant that builds the Quattroporte and Ghibli sedans was officially inaugurated on January 30, 2013. It took exactly 22 months to reach 50,000 cars.

The milestone car is a Quattroporte S Q4 painted in the new Grigio Maratea, with red and black interior upholstery. The car will be shipped to its owner in the United States. The North American market this year reached a new sales record, with more than 10,700 Maseratis delivered in the first 10 months of the year.

To mark its 100th birthday, Maserati has also unveiled a commemorative plaque at 1A via de’ Pepoli, in the heart of Bologna, the place where on December 1, 1914 brothers Alfieri, Ettore and Ernesto opened their “car repair workshop and garage.”

The plaque, affixed by Bologna City Council in association with Maserati, will permanently recall the Maserati brothers’ first historic Bologna workshop. The plaque reads as follows:

“‘Società Anonima Officine Alfieri Maserati’” was founded in this building on 1 December 1914. Thanks to the genius and labours of Alfieri and his brothers Ettore, Ernesto and Bindo the company went on to gain international fame and prestige thus contributing to the world’s awareness of Bologna’s excellent industrial identity.”
