Nissan announced that it is issuing a worldwide recall for around 470,000 cars and SUVs over possible fuel leaks. The recall affects Nissan and Infiniti vehicles from 2012 to 2015 model years with direct injection engines.
The defect concerns fuel pressure sensors that might have not been properly tightened during production, which due to heat and vibration might lead to a fuel leak, thus increasing the possibility of a fire. A Nissan spokesman said that, so far, no accidents or injuries have been reported.
About 233,000 vehicles involved in the recall are in Japan, 143,000 in North America, 71,500 in the Middle East, China, Africa, Latin America and other markets and 22,500 in Europe.
According to the NHTSA, in the US, the affected models include certain 2012-2014 Nissan Jukes and 2012-2013 Infiniti M56s and QX56s, and 2014-2015 Infiniti Q70s and QX80s. In other markets, the recall concerns the Nissan X-Trail, Patrol, Tiida, Pulsar and Serena.
To fix the problem, dealers will replace said fuel sensors if it is deemed necessary. Nissan has begun notifying owners since last month.
