We’ve caught the first spy shots of the next-gen Mercedes-Benz E-Class’ cabin and there’s good news if you liked the styling and feel of the latest S-Class.

You could say that the new E-Class’ dashboard is a poorer or less wealthier man’s version of the one found in the S-Class, as it has a similar design and layout missing out on some goodies such as the full digital instrument cluster, though, we wouldn’t be surprised if it was offered as an option.

As with the W222 S-Class, the dashboard cowl extends to the center console covering the integrated (but slightly smaller in width) infotainment screen controlled familiar and intuitive COMAND rotary switch on the lower console, with four, aviation inspired air vents spread out. The classic clock has been moved under the A/C controls. The S-Class’ interior design has won praise from critics and consumers alike, so we expect much of the same to apply for the new E-Class.

Besides the more elegant and chic styling, passengers should enjoy more space inside with the E-Class riding on a longer and wider version of the brand’s MRA (Mercedes Rear-wheel Architecture) that underpins the latest C-Class, which is expected to help shed some weight over the current model.

The next E-Class will have a mix of engines found in the smaller C-Class and the bigger S-Class, and possibly debut Merc’s rumored inline-six petrol and diesel engines that will replace the V6s producing up to 400hp.

We should see the E-Class gaining at least one AMG Sport model as well as a plug-in hybrid variant. The range will be topped off by the E63 AMG models wearing the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 used in the AMG GT coupe and C63 AMG developing close to 600hp.

Four body styles will be on offer, including the sedan, station wagon, coupe and cabriolet, with the E-Class to be introduced in 2016.
