Announced last September, BMW’s new 2-Series Convertible will launch in Europe in February, and to mark the occasion, the Bavarians dropped a boatload of photos.

Unlike North America where the soft-top iteration of the 2-Series will go on sale this spring with only two gasoline engine options on the table, a 240hp 2.0-liter turbo four for the 228i and 228i xDrive and a 320hp 3.0-liter turbo six for the M235i, Europe will get a seven engine-strong  lineup covering most needs.

In addition to the 228i with 245PS and M235i with 326PS, there are two more gasoline mills on offer, a 184PS (181hp) 2.0-liter turbo four-pot for the 220i and a 136PS (134hp) 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbo for the 218i – yes, that’s right, you can get a three-pot 2-Series across the pond.

Frugal-minded buyers can go for one of three 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel powerplants, with 150PS (148hp) in the 218d, 190PS (187hp) in the 220d and 224PS (221hp) in the 225d.

Longer (+72mm), wider (+26mm) and with a 30mm bigger wheelbase than its 1-Series Convertible predecessor for improved space, the new roofless 2-Series has a 30-liter bigger trunk at 335 liters with the top closed (or 20 liters extra at 280 liters when open), with BMW also highlighting a 20 percent increase in torsional rigidity.

The fabric top itself is new offering “additional insulation and optimized acoustic comfort”. It opens and closes at a touch if a button in 20 seconds at speeds of up to 50km/h or around 30mph.

Its closest rival is the Audi A3 Convertible.
