While the F-150 and Mustang production changeovers did detract a bit from Ford’s overall 2014 sales figure, its yearly result has still allowed the automaker to claim the top spot in the US for the fifth consecutive year now.

The Blue Oval ended the year well, posting one percent better sales in December compared to 2013. The total tally came round to 2,480,942 vehicles with 2014’s special mentions being the Fusion and Escape which complimented the predictably good performance of the (old) F-150.

The sedan and crossover managed nearly identical numbers, selling just over 300,000 examples each.

If you were wondering about the new aluminum-bodied pickup, John Felice, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service says “demand for the all-new F-150 (pictured) also is very high, and it now is the fastest-turning vehicle in Ford showrooms, averaging just five days on dealer lots in December.”

The Mustang posted a 66 percent increase in December over 2013; Lincoln was up too, but by just 21 percent. Ford’s luxury arm ended the year on a positive note, managing to sell a total of 94,474 vehicles.
