Mercedes has revealed its new GLE AMG 63 Coupe in both regular and “S” forms ahead of its world premiere at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show.

Power comes from Mercedes’ 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 that develops a maximum output of 549hp and 516 lb-ft of torque in the standard GLE 63 Coupe and 577hp and 561 lb-ft of torque in the GLE 63 S Coupe.

In both models, the V8 is hooked up to a 7-speed automatic transmission with five modes (Slippery, Individual, Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus) and the AMG Performance 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive system with rear-biased power distribution (40:60 front-rear).

The Germans claim a 0-60mph (96km/h) acceleration in 4.2 seconds for the “S” version, making it 0.2 seconds slower than the new 567hp (575PS) BMW X6M, while top speed is electronically limited to 155mph (250km/h).

Mercedes’ new performance SUV gets an upgraded chassis that includes an AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with active roll stabilization, an ACTIVE CURVE SYSTEM and the Sports Direct- Steer system.

The base AMG model rides on 21-inch wheels with 285/45 front and 325/40 rear tires, while the GLE63 S Coupé gets larger 22-inch rims on 285/40 front and 325/35 rear tires along with red-painted brake calipers.

On the outside, the two AMG GLE Coupes receive flared wheel arches, redesigned bumpers on both ends, and quad exhaust pipes. The illuminated aluminum-look side running boards with anti-slip rubber studs seen on the demonstrator in the pictures are optional.

Interior upgrades include sport seats with specific upholstery, a flat-bottom steering wheel, special trim and a modified instrument cluster.
