Opel has announced that the most fuel-efficient model of the new Corsa lineup has just become more economical. The Corsa 1.3 CDTI ecoFlex now averages just 3.1 l/100 km (75.8 mpg US or 91.1 mpg UK). Responsible for the reduction of 0.1 l/100 km is the new Easytronic 3.0 automated five-speed manual transmission, which is now available on the Corsa 1.3 CDTI ecoFlex.

Opel says these values make the new Corsa the most economical Opel on sale today and the most economical diesel-powered model in the market. The three-door 95PS (94hp) 1.3 CDTI ecoFlex with standard Start/Stop technology, braking energy recuperation and low-rolling-resistance tires, combined with the new Easytronic 3.0 transmission, can reduce CO2 emissions to 82 grams per kilometer, 3 grams less than with the classic manual five-speed transmission.

The revamped 1.3-liter diesel engine produces 95PS (94hp) and 190Nm (140lb-ft) of torque between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm. Reduced fuel consumption and CO2 values are also due to a number of solutions such as the water pump which is only operational when required, and the variable oil pump.

Furthermore, the five-speed Easytronic 3.0 transmission weighs less and has lower internal friction than a conventional automatic transmission, combining the advantages of a comfortable automatic transmission with the efficiency of a manual transmission. Easytronic 3.0 automatically selects the most fuel-efficient gear based on a manual transmission optimized for smaller engines and enables economical driving.

The Opel Corsa 1.3 CDTI ecoFlex will be available to order in Germany from March.
