Renault has announced that its new C-segment crossover will be called Kadjar, with a launch date set for February 2.

The name combines KAD, inspired by “quad” which represents a go-anywhere four-wheel drive vehicle, and JAR, which recalls the French words “agile” and “jaillir,” representing agility and suddenly emerging from somewhere. Renault says the sound and spelling of the name have an exotic feel which “suggests adventure and discovering new horizons.”

The automaker also mentions that the Kadjar name fits with its existing range of crossovers, the Captur and Koleos. I would also add that the name has a certain resemblance to Nissan’s Qashqai, the vehicle Renault Kadjar is believed to be based upon.

Renault didn’t offer any other details about the new vehicle, but said it will release new photos and videos of the Kadjar on a daily basis starting from January 26, as part of a social media teaser campaign called #KADJAR. We’ll keep you posted as soon as we get new information on the new SUV.
