It probably must have been very intense (loud and hard to breathe) when a total of 103 cars lit up their rear tires at the same time in Australia’s capital, Canberra on January 1st.

The gathering was meant to beat an old record set at the same Summernats venue in 2013, when 68 cars were lined up.

Apparently, though, the number of cars taking part was even higher (107 counted), but not all were factored into the final result. Even so, their smoke and noise contribution would have been minimal, and we’d really have liked to see somebody measure how many decibels it all accounted to.

Talking about doing burnouts and smoking (of cigarettes) is a bit of a cliché these days, but it fits perfectly here. It’s not a cure for actual smoking, though, as it’s probably even more harmful to bathe in the alarming amount of disintegrated rubber we saw plumes of in the videos posted below.
