The disguise may not be peeling away from the XF prototypes, but Jaguar’s next executive saloon is nearing its reveal date that’s set for the beginning of April at the 2015 New York Auto Show.

These fresh pictures show the second-generation XF undergoing winter testing in Sweden, with our spies catching a quick glimpse of the redesigned interior with the dipped air vents, sculpted cowl and part of the infotainment system’s display screen.

Internally called Project X260, Jaguar’s BMW 5-Series fighter retains the familiar three-box saloon body with a rakish roofline, but features an even shallower rear windscreen angle. While we can’t see it in these testers, the XF is believed to have sharper details and more aggressive creases on the body. Expect fancy LED lights on both ends of the car.

With the new XF, Jaguar is eliminating the current model’s Ford roots and moving onto the JLR group’s scalable iQ[Al] aluminum architecture that also underpins the XE compact executive sedan. Even though the new XF will be slightly bigger than today’s model, the lighter platform is expected to help reduce weight by up to 100kg (220 pounds).

The firm’s new generation turbocharged four-cylinder Ingenium engine family will power the entry versions of the XF, with V6 and V8 units finding their way into the mid- and top-level models, including the XFR and XFR-S high-performance editions, the latter with a supercharged V8 pushing out close to 600-horses.

Both rear- and all-wheel drive versions will be on offer, while most, if not all models, will come with a nine-speed ZF automatic complete with a rotary transmission selector.
