Remember the so-called RND concept teased by Toyota two days ago ahead of a January 26 official reveal?

Well, sorry to spoil it for you, but it’s not a concept, it’s just Toyota UK’s way of raising awareness to Red Nose Day, an event organized each year on March 13 by UK charity Comic Relief to raise money for people in need.

The RND Concept is therefore nothing else than a Toyota Auris with a red nose mounted on top of the logo. The information was obtained by Holland’s Autovisie, which inquired Toyota Europe about the RND Concept.

“Please forgive the unique sense of humor of our British colleagues. RND concept is a bogus concept model meant to raise awareness on the British charity Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day initiative,” Toyota Motor Europe replied in an e-mail to Autovisie.

“The Red Nose Day car is nothing more than a Toyota Auris with a red nose. The red nose will be sold in February and March by British Toyota dealerships,” the statement added. Each “nose” will cost £5 and all proceeds will go to charity.

I guess we can forgive Toyota UK for making all of us working in automotive media look like amateurs (except the folks from Autovisie), even though we’re nowhere near April 1. At least it’s for a good cause.
