In case you haven’t been paying attention, Volvo have been making great cars for a while now. They look good, they drive well, they ride well, the interiors are splendid and of course, they’re extremely safe.

They were also ahead of the curve when they first made the XC70 (initially called the Cross Country XC) and so today their CC models feature the V40, the S60 and the XC70 – but according to Volvo’s VP of Product Strategy, Lex Kerssemakers, there is room to grow.

Kerssemakers told Autocar that sales are looking better for Cross Country models and that “we are starting to really believe in the potential of the brand. We want to re-inject some energy into it as we see it as a concept that can really grow in the future.”

The customer has always been very important for Volvo, because of their fans loyalty to their brand. “As long as Cross Country models have some capability – all-wheel drive, hill descent control – then they are giving customers what they want, and that is enough for them to be considered authentic.” added Kerssemakers.

It’s true that you feel more confident while driving a Cross Country version rather than a regular version in certain conditions – and this philosophy should apply to the entire range, but it’s unclear which models could receive the CC treatment in the future since you obviously can’t apply it to the SUVs and we certainly hope they’re not going to apply it to the S80 replacement.

Other than maybe make a CC version of the V60 but you couldn’t name it the XC60 because it’s already taken. We’ll probably have to wait for some of their new models to show up in order to discover in which direction they’re taking the Cross Country brand.
