Since we’re already coming up on the end of January, we’re going to start seeing F1 teams present their cars for the upcoming 2015 season, which is always a fun time for fans.

Seems like Williams blinked first, showing us a few official images of their FW37 model – a car they hope is going to bring them more than just a few podiums this year. As for it’s design, Williams Martini Racing Chief Pat Symonds said that “The notion for the FW37 was to look closely at the FW36 and its performances. We then went about recognizing what had worked well and identifying and resolving the areas we felt needed to be improved.”

As you know, Williams took a well deserved 3rd place in the Constructors Championship in 2014, which means they already had a great car both from an aerodynamics stand point as well as engine wise thanks to Mercedes.

The FW37’s layout was actually completed in August 2014, but they still had to work on the new front bulkhead which as Symonds stated “Had much more of an impact than we had initially anticipated and the effect on the aero was profound.”

The new nose is shorter and lower than that of the FW36, although if you think they didn’t have any inspiration on how to adjust to the new regulations, all you need to do is take a look at the Mercedes GP 2014 F1 car. The noses are very similar both in shape as well as size. Both don’t run the entire length of the front wing and use a similar protuberance in the mid-section – it’s harder to see on the Mercedes car because it’s painted in black.

Williams will not only be looking to catch Mercedes in 2015, but also keep the rest of the potential challengers like Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren off their rear wings.

If you’re a Williams fan, you should definitely start getting excited especially since they also made all these alterations to the design of the new car for extra performance “without the fear of adding excessive mass” according to Symonds.

The FW37 Williams is expected to make its public debut during the first pre-season test of the year in Jerez, Spain, February 1-4.
