Once the smart choice for up-and-coming yuppies back in the 1980s, BMW‘s E30 3-Series is now becoming an increasingly hot commodity for collectors. The rarer the model, the more ridiculous the asking price, with abused, regular M3s going easily for over $30,000.
We can only imagine what one would command for the super rare M3-based Alpina B6 3.5S in the States when a 325i-based Alpina B6 has been listed for sale on eBay for a whopping $62,000.
It’s a 1986 model, with the seller stating that, “it is the only B6 3.5 known to exist in the United States, and the only one (out of 218 ever made) for sale in the world”.
Price aside, it is a sweet looking ride with the subtle Alpina treatment on the outside adding a lovely set of multipsoke wheels, a front apron, stripes and a wraparound rear spoiler at the back, and bespoke seats, shifter and steering wheel inside.
But it’s what Alpina did to the 325i’s internals that counts, as it replaced the stock 170PS (168hp) 2.5-liter straight-six with a 254PS (251hp) 3.5-liter inline-six, which was the same engine (with the same output) used in their M3 B6 3.5S, according to Alpina’s own website (for the record, the seller says it produces 261hp). Alpina claims the 325i B6 3.5 could hit 100km/h (62mph) from standstill in 6.6 seconds topping out at 246km/h (153mph).
A close ratio gearbox and updated suspension and brake parts were also part of the package.
This car has 88,250 miles on the odometer.
