The GMC Canyon and Chevy Colorado are meant as smaller alternatives to the big boy trucks sold by GM. They offer the same basic functionality, but lower towing and carrying capacity; what you gain is improved efficiency, maneuverability and extra ease of parking.

It looks like a proper beefy truck in the way that you’d expect it to, although it is a lot smaller than a Chevy Silverado, for instance. Even so, the chunky lines do work, as does the heavily designed dashboard.

The design is actually quite flamboyant (for a truck) and it also houses all of the technologies you could want in a vehicle like this. There’s a touchscreen infotainment unit with apps apps and connectivity – it looks fresh and according to CNET’s Brian Cooley it’s pretty slick to use too, if a bit “tabletized” in his own words when referring to the interface.

The reviewer recommends going for the bigger V6 engine, although you can get the four-pot with a six-speed manual gearbox, so if you want one of those the smaller engine will have to do. There’s also a diesel on its way too and should be here by the end of the year.
