2016 Mercedes-Maybach Pullman Takes S-Class to New Opulent Lengths

When the S-Class isn't luxurious enough and the Maybach S-Class not long enough, then Benz would like you to meet the excessively lavish and outrageously long, all-new Mercedes-Maybach Pullman.

The introduction of the latest member of the reborn and continuously expanding S-Class family at next month's Geneva Motor Show coincides with the 50th anniversary of the most famous Pullman of them all, the 1965 Mercedes-Benz 600.

Its modern-day incarnation makes the existing 5,453 mm (214.7 in) long Mercedes-Maybach S500/S600 look small in comparison measuring 6,499mm (255.9 in) in length, while adding another 100mm (3.9 in) in height over the S-Class. It rides on an extended 4,418mm (173.9 in) wheelbase, which is about the same length as a Mazda3 sedan…

All that space goes to accommodate the four rear passengers who can sit facing each other in the compartment with an electrically-operated partition window featuring an 18.5-inch (47 cm) monitor located in front that can also be extended electrically.

Alternatively, if that's not enough room for your legs, you can order the Pullman with just two lounge-like executive rear seats that can recline up to 43.5 degrees. Rear passengers get three analogue instruments in the roof liner informing them of the outside temperature, speed and time, and a Burmester high-end 3D surround sound system.

Mercedes says that the entire interior is upholstered in leather, from the seats and the doors to the roof liner, the door-frames and the seat consoles. And that's only the starting point as the Pullman will offer an "unrivalled scope for individualization", according to the Germans.

"Quite apart from providing stately and stylish seating for high-ranking passengers in the comfort and spaciousness for which it is famed, the new Mercedes-Maybach Pullman is of course the embodiment of exclusivity at its highest level," commented Daimler board member Ola Källenius. "One can sense the significance and greatness of it in every detail."

Power for the Pullman comes from Merc's 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 with 530PS (523hp) and 830Nm (612 lb-ft) of peak torque at 1,900 rpm.

The new Mercedes-Maybach Pullman goes on sale at the beginning of 2016 with prices for un-armored models starting from around €500,000 or about $570,000.
