A Mercedes-Benz 280S/8 comes from an age when the German manufacturer was best known for its elegant and massively over-engineered products.
Back then, Mercedes wanted to restore its top-notch reputation after years of producing weak cars of questionable ability and the /8 was the first model of that new era. Designed by Paul Bracq, this “new” generation of Benzes debuted in 1968, gaining universal appraise for their styling and extreme longevity.
Bernhard Bredehorn explains how his passion started from the back seat of his grandfather’s W116 280SE and how the restoration of its yellow 1972 280S/8 became a race against the imminent arrival of its first-born child.
Mercedes was building its cars like tanks back then and Bernhard confesses that even after 42 years all of its bearings are still fine.
