Citroën’s luxury brand DS has updated its flagship model, the DS 5, which loses any reference to its parent company. The chevron that used to adorn the front end has been replaced by the DS logo placed on a redesigned grille, but that’s not the only change the DS 5 gets.

The model also features new Xenon Full LED headlights, a new touch drive interface and a refreshed range of engines. The car showcased in the photos also sports a new body color called Ink Blue, which will be available from launch. Inside, the DS 5 gains a new interior trim with the “watch strap” upholstery in two-tone black and deep blue, along with a new DS monogram trim on the doors and center console.

The new color touch drive interface provides access to all in-car functions, from navigation to music, as well as simplifying the interior layout, with 12 fewer buttons on the dashboard and fascia. The screen also includes new Mirror Screen technology, which allows users to copy smartphone content onto the screen in order to use apps safely when driving.

Standard features for the DS 5 include electric memory and massaging front seats, keyless entry & start, heated door mirrors, an electro chrome interior mirror, ambient lighting, dual-zone automatic air conditioning and a Denon Hi-Fi system. Safety systems include a blind spot monitoring system, lane departure warning function, automatic high beam control, hill-start assist, stability control, intelligent traction control, a reversing camera and a head-up display.

In terms of engines, the facelifted DS 5 will be available with five Euro 6 units, four diesels and one petrol, with the range to be extended at the end of 2015 with a new 210PS engine, the THP 210 S&S 6-speed manual.

The single petrol engine on offer from launch is the THP 165 S&S EAT6, which produces 162hp (165PS) and 240Nm (177lb-ft) of torque from 1,400 rpm. Then there are three BlueHDi diesel engines: BlueHDi 120 S&S 6-speed manual, BlueHDi 150 S&S 6-speed manual and BlueHDi 180 S&S EAT6.

DS will continue to offer a Hybrid 4X4 Diesel model, which combines an HDi diesel engine with an electric motor that powers the rear wheels. Combined system output remains 200PS (197hp), with CO2 emissions estimated at below 100 g/km. The Hybrid 4×4 is the most economical model of the DS 5 range, returning 3.5 l/100 km (80 mpg UK or 66.6 mpg US) on a combined cycle.
