Hyundai was caught by our spies during testing what appears to be a test mule for the next Genesis Coupe in snowy Sweden.

Don’t let the familiar Genesis Coupe bodywork fool you; what lies underneath is the next generation of Hyundai’s successful sports car. If you look closely enough, you’ll notice the extended wheelbase and the hollow front and rear fenders in order to fit everything under there.

Hyundai has already given us a clue of what to expect from the new Genesis Coupe with the sexy HND-9 Concept. The company since then is giving us the silent treatment but the outcome is expected to impress. We can only assume that the final product will look similar to our expectations. The new model is based on a shortened platform of the Genesis sedan and Hyundai wants its new baby to rival cars like the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro.

Engine-wise, the firm’s upcoming turbocharged 3.3-litre V6 with over 350hp is definitely going to find its way under the hood. The range will be completed with an also turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine while rumors talk about an even hotter version that will use the 5.0-litre V8 from its larger sedan sibling. What we can tell for sure is that an intercooler lies behind that front fender.

There is also a possibility for a 4WD version of the next Genesis Coupe, using Hyundai’s HTRAC all-wheel-drive system but nothing has been confirmed yet.
