You already know that Google and Apple are working towards changing our habits while sitting in our cars. Both of the technological behemoths are working on their in-car solutions in order to fully integrate your smartphone’s functions with the vehicle’s dashboard.

Toyota is basically the only big manufacturer that stated officially that it will not adopt the latest offerings from any of the two Silicon Valley giants. In a report by the NY Times, John Hanson, the national manager of Toyota’s advanced technology communications said that Toyota had no plans in offering either Android Auto or Apple CarPlay in the United States even though the company had frequent talks with both Google and Apple.

“We may all eventually wind up there, but right now we prefer to use our in-house proprietary platforms for those kinds of functions,” Hanson said.

The other big name on this short list is Porsche but having Audi and Volkswagen already committed could mean that an adaptation is not far away. Most of the automakers out there are already on board with them, with many offering or about to offer both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay systems.

The main idea of these systems is to plug your phone and let their operating system take over the screen and certain buttons inside a car. It’s the next, natural step and meets the expectations of the customers. One of the main goals of these systems is to reduce distractions while driving, by using the advanced voice-control module and not allowing the driver to use its phone when it’s plugged in.

And no, you can’t play Angry Birds or whatever game is popular these days on the central screen of your car.
