If you’re looking to buy a VW Golf and want it to look a bit like the hot AWD R model without it actually going like one, then the R-Line pack is your only option. It’s been available elsewhere in Europe, but now it’s been brought to the UK, as well, where it can be had on the hatchback version of the Golf.

Retailing from £24,190 (RRP OTR), it adds a rear spoiler and a new grille up front, as well as unique bumpers plus diffuser at the back; 17-inch “Singapore” wheels complete the exterior look.

Inside, the sporty theme is continued, with the addition of stainless steel pedals and sill guards, along with unique pieces of plastic trim as well as Sports Race design fronts seats with obligatory R-Line logos. Finishing off the interior is the R-Line leather multifunctional flat-bottomed steering wheel.

Engines available both have 150 PS or 148 hp and they’re either the 2.0-liter TDI or 1.4-liter TSI. Gearbox options are either a six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG.

The most you can pay for one of these is £26,765, for a diesel five-door example.
