So BMW says its new 2-Series Gran Tourer, the longer three-row version of the Active Tourer, is the only vehicle of its kind in the world.

It argues there is no other premium compact model with seven seats; whether that makes it a great proposition, or it just means other manufacturers don’t think such a thing would sell.

The 2-Series Gran Tourer bowed in Geneva with a range six of very efficient three- and four-cylinder engines and the option of front- or all-wheel drive; all units are newly developed for BMW’s smaller cars.

The Bavarian automaker still says it offers sporting dynamics, even given its longer wheelbase, extra weight and the front-wheel drive bias.

BMW is proud that the 2-Series Gran Tourer has the lowest emissions in its sector, but didn’t they just say it currently is the sector? It averages between 6.4 – 3.9 l/100 km and emits between 149 – 104 g/km CO2.
