That’s not a Nissan badge with Volvo typography and that’s not a real VW Beetle 5d: welcome to wonderful world of Chinese automotive inspiration

VIDOEV has nothing to do with Nissan, Volvo nor Volkswagen, yet somehow, it managed to offend all three automakers, and especially the people’s car brand with its all-electric prototype that made its debut at the Shandong EV Expo, the same place we saw this BMW i3 wannabe.

As most Chinese doppelgangers, it doesn’t look exactly like the model it was inspired by to avoid legal repercussions, with the VIDEOV borrowing design elements from both the 1997-2010 New Beetle and the latest 2011- Beetle A5 on a longer five-door hatchback body.

In the unfinished interior, the dashboard is more Beetle A5 than anything else.

The Chinese maker of low-speed electric vehicles (LSEV), electric minivans, and small electric buses, says that the 4.3 meters long and 1.7 meters wide is powered by an electric motor producing “at least” 20kW (27hp). It added that it is looking at a production version, which would be priced at around 100,000 Yuan or roughly $16,000.
