While the car is still at least a year off, Elio Motors has given us a video of their 0.9-liter three-cylinder engine that’s going to power the super-efficient car costing from $6,800.

The little engine is shown in this video on its first dyno run. There’s not much other than the sound of a hard-working little three-pot going on, but it’s proof this long-talked about car will have an engine.
Elio projects it will be capable of getting the car to a top speed of more than 100 MPH.

To get to that speed and achieve the high efficiency, Elio says the “cylinder block, cylinder heads, CAM cover, front cover, oil pan, crankshaft, camshaft, valve train, pistons, connecting rods, bearings and water pump” were all designed just for their car, with engine partner IAV.

Delays in funding have pushed back production of the three-wheeled car until the first half of 2016. It’s set to be produced in an ex-General Motors assembly plant in Shreveport, Louisiana.
