The Mercedes-Benz 300SL, also known as the Gullwing, is a true sports car conceived and built as such from the onset. It features a lightweight tube frame construction, a strong six-cylinder engine and the feeling of being German-engineered.

Jay Leno says he had been skeptical of the car’s qualities, until he bought his own and got to drive it for the first time. Now he says he has a much deeper appreciation for the car, which is actually very nice to drive and super-advanced in its construction, at least for 1955 it is.

It’s still in rough shape, as it sat neglected in a container in the desert for many years, but mechanically it’s been brought back up to tip top condition.

Also, in spite of looking old and rusty, the car’s actually only had three previous owners from new and it’s reportedly never been raced or in a serious crash.
