Chinese-owned brand MG is having a hard time establishing itself as a serious mainstream contender. Now that its 6 hatchback has been on the market for over three years it’s due for a refresh which has just been announced and will be revealed next month.

The automaker only showed a headlight teaser, which features a slightly different design to the one on the current incarnation. The reshaped unit looks more purposeful and sharper and that’s probably the theme adopted for the entire update – make the whole thing look sharper, more modern.

Actually, according to the manufacturer, this is not just a restyling but a comprehensive overhaul (both mechanical and esthetic) of the entire car that promises to improve it in every way.

MG’s Head of Marketing, Matthew Cheyne, goes one step further, saying “this is a totally different car to the original MG6 with a host of new technologies and major advances in every area.”

Cheyne adds that “the new MG6 takes the car to a different level again with a host of great improvements and advances, most of which have never been seen before on an MG.”

He is keen to point out that the car is still a great drive, probably its most noteworthy point that recurred in pretty much all reviews we saw of it.
