The 2015 Geneva Motor Show is hosting one of only six limited edition Ferrari Sergio units, celebrating the spirit and core values of Pininfarina.

Yes, it’s been 85 years since the day when Battista “Pinin” Farina founded Societa Anonima Carrozzeria Pinin Farina in Turin. Today, Pininfarina focuses on design (both automotive and non-automotive) as well as the building of unique cars, the so-called Fuoriserie (custom built) vehicles.

It doesn’t get any more “Fuoriserie” tha the Ferrari Sergio Roadster. This car was born as a concept back in 2013 when it saw the light of day in Geneva of all places, and now it’s become a reality.

Company chairman Paolo Pininfarina was proud to celebrate both the car and the 85 year milestone (plus the 60 year Ferrari-collaboration anniversary), saying that the Sergio “embodies the excellence of Pininfarina in designing and manufacturing high quality cars and it’s a further exercise on the Ferrari brand, to which we are related by a history that has helped define the most beautiful cars of all time. But, above all, it’s a dream come true.”

We don’t doubt it, especially since the car was conceived as a tribute to Sergio Pininfarina. To have it now up and running on the streets must be a very special moment for everybody involved in the project.

The 6 limited edition roadsters being built will each have a different color and interior configuration – and we look forward to seeing them all.

Technically, we are of course looking at a 458 Spider, packing a 605 PS naturally aspirated V8 engine (straight from the 458 Speciale A). It’ll get from 0 to 100km/h (62mph) in just 3 seconds – which makes this one of the fastest custom built convertibles in the world.

While it’s true that its design is more retro than some may like, there’s no arguing that this car has a very strong character.
