Comedian and actor Russel Brand’s videos on his own channel are occasionally really good, witty or funny. Some aren’t, but this one made to make a bit of a mockery of the whole Jeremy Clarkson-Top Gear malarkey actually makes a point, I think.

Perhaps everybody’s been a bit too serious about the whole thing, most notably James May who called it “a tragedy,” even though that should be a term reserved for instances when deeply depressed copilots fly planes into mountains, right?

Brand is basically saying that we’re all taking this just a little bit too seriously, and he’s totally right. Why do we care what happens to Top Gear in its current form, since all three presenters will probably continue to work right away, and the show was really growing stale?

They’re all still apt for presenting car/entertainment shows and just as talented as ever, so the prospect of breaking free from the shackles of the BBC can only mean more freedom of expression for all three, and especially Jeremy.

So stop crying about the demise of the current form of Top Gear, because the show will not die off, the BBC will figure something out and the three presenters will keep presenting. There is no tragedy in that.
