If you live in Europe, watching this ad might just trigger a little compassion for those markets who won’t be enjoying the Passat B8 generation any time soon.

Of course, if you’re located in the U.S, you have no choice but to settle for the North American Passat, which when you stop and think about it, might not be such a terrible thing.

It’s still larger than the European model, which includes the B8 obviously, and it has more interior room. This is because it has to battle it out against some pretty big saloons, unlike in Europe where it only has to face the likes of the Opel Insignia and so on.

Something else it has going for it on the U.S market is the well crafted interior – of course that’s no longer such an advantage, since many of its rivals have made huge leaps in terms of cabin quality. But still, the materials are pretty good.

As for fuel economy, few can match up with the 2.0 TDI Clean Diesel unit and its 30 city/44 highway mpg rating. Which is why VW keeps mentioning this in most of their ads.

One of the few downsides to the Passat when it comes to the U.S model is its looks, if we’re being honest. It’s quite outdated for a 2015 model. Same can be said about the specs. It can’t even touch a Honda Accord in terms of on-board gadgets.

That being said, we think its a good all-rounder that shouldn’t be overlooked so easily. However this doesn’t mean it’s a ‘best buy’ in its segment, not by a long shot.
