Less than two weeks after we caught Aston Martin running a test mule for the DB9’s replacement around the ‘Ring, an actual prototype of the coupe was spotted by one of our associates at a parking lot in Europe.

What you see is not the final product as Aston Martin used numerous fake panels and parts, including the front and rear light fixtures, to hide the car’s appearance.

However, do note the ground-hugging stance and much shorter overhangs on both ends over the current DB9, as well as the outline of the body and some styling details like the deep front-fender air outlets and prolonged exterior mirrors that remind us of the DB10 that will star in the new James Bond flick Spectre.

While we’re calling it the DB11 for now, Aston Martin hasn’t officially given the DB9’s replacement a name yet, only that it will be the first of a number of new cars planned for the next few years.

Expected to arrive in 2016, it will ride on a new bonded-aluminum architecture with power to likely come from Aston’s own 6.0-liter V12 (this unit was used on the prototype we spied) and possibly, a new twin-turbocharged V8 engine sourced from Mercedes-AMG as part of a wider deal with Daimler that will also give the DB11 a new electrical architecture.
